A local reporter by the name of Smiley Anders has been collecting and writing this funny column since 1979 when he first started in the business. The public write in their true stories of funny situations that happened to them. The public also pass on local Cajun jokes for good measure.
One day Smiley was calling out for readers to send in funny business names they have seen in their Louisiana communities. Some of the names are downright odd and funny crazy. Some business owners actually invested in these silly names!
It's ALL good reminds us of the sweetness in life!
From Gerald Wray, Pride, Louisiana: “Channeling my inner Andy Rooney of ‘60 Minutes’ fame: ‘Have you ever noticed the funny names people give their businesses?’
“I travel a lot throughout Louisiana, so there are no shortage of crazy names I have seen on businesses.
“But the one I saw on a hair salon in Columbia, Louisiana, probably rates as one of the best - or worst.
“The hair salon’s name? ‘Curl Up and Dye.’
“Just wondering what other crazy names your readers have seen out there.”
Of course, once that tidbit was published one reader offered a couple of hilarious business names:
From Phillip Garrett, Prairieville, Louisiana: “Bayou Self” car wash on U.S. 61 near St. Francisville.
“Minnow Pause,” a bait shop on La. 1 near Grand Isle.
And since Louisiana is increasingly getting used as a set and a movie production area for vampire shows like "True Blood" you simply must own a funny t-shirt to celebrate all the campy fun!
For TV show True Blood fans: My landlord is a FANGER. My boss? A WEREWOLF. And my partner is a real FAIRY. Life on the bayou...
